Brazil humiliates India 4-0 in Kolkata as the Selecao highlights the gap in class between the two nations

India’s long-awaited “dream game” with Brazil ended in a harsh reality check as the five-time world champions cruised to a 4-0 victory at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday.
This historic friendly was the first-ever senior international meeting between the two nations, but once Brazil settled into the contest, the gap in quality became increasingly visible.
India began with courage and created some chances early on and defensively remained solid for the first twenty odd minutes.
Khalid Jamil’s side tried to test an offside trap against Vinícius Júnior and showed enough defensive organisation to keep Brazil frustrated during the opening stages.
Estêvão opened the scoring in the 28th minute after a howler from the veteran keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu before Pedro doubled the advantage just before half-time.
The two goals changed the complexion of the contest, leaving India with a mountain to climb against a side superior in every department and completely killing the Blue Tigers’ momentum.
Full-back Samuel Lino then took centre stage after the break.
The 26-year-old struck in the 58th minute before completing his brace deep into stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive 4-0 victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
The defeat was harsh for India, but it also highlighted exactly where the Blue Tigers stand against elite football teams. There were encouraging moments, particularly in the opening half-hour, yet Brazil’s ability to score goals from half-chances decided the game.
The five-time World champions could've easily added more goals, but they never got out of the first gear and played a very casual game.
For Brazil, meanwhile, the victory capped a productive international window under Ancelotti as the Italian team heavily rotated several players, ensuring valuable minutes, and the Selecao continued their rebuilding process after their disastrous World Cup campaign.
For India, the night was historic, but the scoreline made the scoreline teach them a harsh lesson: that competing with the world’s best requires far more than moments of resistance.
India will face yet another football giant Uruguay up next on October 6 at the same venue and hope to get a better result.
